Overview
Your dashboard shows traffic for all your custom domains added together. Domain Analytics is a paid add-on that breaks those numbers down, so you can see how each custom domain is doing on its own.
You get per-domain analytics in three places: on your dashboard, on each domain's page, and in the Analytics API.
What You Get
Every domain on your dashboard
The domains table on your dashboard shows these numbers for each domain:
Visitors: unique visitors in the selected period.
Trend: a small chart of daily visitors.
Vs prev.: how visitors changed compared to the previous period of the same length.
5xx: the share of requests that returned a server error.
Avg resp.: how fast your upstream answered that domain's requests.
Domains with the most visitors are listed first, and you can search the table to find a specific domain.
Biggest movers
The Biggest movers card shows the domains whose traffic grew or dropped the most compared to the previous period. It's the quickest way to spot a customer whose domain is taking off, or one that suddenly went quiet.
Full analytics on each domain's page
Open any custom domain and go to the Analytics tab. It has two views:
Web Analytics: unique visitors, visits and page views over time, plus devices (browsers, operating systems and screens), sources (referrers and UTM params), locations (countries, regions and cities) and top pages.
Proxy Analytics: requests, data transfer, average response time and response time distribution, plus response codes, and how much of the traffic comes from bots and datacenters.
You can pick the date range and show the charts by day, week or month.
Per-domain numbers in the Analytics API
Every number on a domain's page has its own API endpoint, so you can pull a domain's analytics into your own app. For example, you can build a "Your traffic" page in your customers' dashboards that shows them visitors, top pages and sources for their own custom domain.
The endpoints live under /api/v1/analytics/custom_domains/{domain_uuid}/. For example, this returns where a domain's visitors come from:
GET /api/v1/analytics/custom_domains/{domain_uuid}/sources
Other endpoints include unique_visitors_by_date, pageviews_by_date, pages, utm_params, locations, devices, request_counts_by_date and average_response_time_by_date.
See the Analytics API docs for the full list, parameters and example responses.
Enabling Domain Analytics
Domain Analytics is an add-on to a paid plan, and only account admins can enable it. To turn it on:
Log in to your SaaS Custom Domains account.
Click Enable Domain Analytics on your dashboard or on any domain's page. You can also go to Settings → Billing and click Enable next to Domain Analytics under Add-ons.
Check the confirmation window and click Enable.
Per-domain analytics show up right away, including for past dates.
If you're on an older plan and see a message that Domain Analytics isn't available yet, reach out via the chat widget and we'll sort it out.
Turning Domain Analytics Off
Go to Settings → Billing and click Disable next to Domain Analytics. It stays on until your next payment, which includes that month's charge, and then turns off.
Changed your mind before then? Click Keep Domain Analytics on the same page.
That's it! You now know everything about Domain Analytics.
Until next time, keep building!
