Overview

SaaS Custom Domains allows you to upload and manage your own custom SSL/TLS certificates. This guide will walk you through the process of using custom certificates and explain their benefits to your services.

Benefits of Custom Certificates

  • Improved Trust: Gain user trust by displaying custom certificates that are recognized and trusted by major browsers.

  • Compliance: Meet specific regulatory requirements by using your own certificates.

  • Flexibility: Manage your certificate lifecycle independently and apply updates as needed.

Enabling Custom Certificates for Your Domains

Custom certificates are an advanced feature designed for enhanced security and compliance. To activate this feature for your account, please contact our Support team via the Intercom chat widget or email us at [email protected]. Our team will assist you in enabling custom certificates and guide you through the setup process.

To enable and upload a custom certificate, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Custom Certificates Section:

  2. Upload Your Certificate and Key:

    • Click on the New Custom Certificate button.

    • Upload the certificate file (typically with a .crt or .pem extension).

    • Upload the corresponding private key file (typically with a .key extension).

  3. Create the Custom Certificate:

    • Click the Create Custom Certificate button to save your new certificate.

How Custom Certificates Work

When you upload a custom certificate, SaaS Custom Domains handles the SSL/TLS termination using your provided certificate and private key.

We'll automatically determine which custom domains the certificate will cover by examining the Subject Alternative Names (SANs) listed in the certificate. This way, all specified domains are securely managed with your custom certificate.

πŸ’‘ Important to know!

You'll still have to create a custom domain in our platform to ensure the requests are properly forwarded to the correct upstream.

Custom Certificate Expiry Management

Expiry Notifications

To ensure continuous security, SaaS Custom Domains sends email notifications to the account owner 30, 14, 7, and 3 days before a custom certificate expires.

What Happens If You Don't Renew

If you don't renew your custom certificate before it expires, SaaS Custom Domains will attempt to issue a new certificate for your domain using our automated systems. However, this may not cover all scenarios, and manual intervention might still be required. To ensure seamless service, always renew and upload your certificates before they expire.

That's it! Now you know everything about Custom Certificates!

Until next time, keep building!
